Almond is a town on the eastern edge of Allegany County, New York, with a population of 1,526 according to the 2020 census. The town is west of Hornell and easily accessible via Interstate 86 at Exit 33 and New York State Route 21. The area's settlement began near Karrdale in 1796. When Allegany County was established in 1806, the region that would become Almond was part of the Town of Alfred. According to Town Historian John Reynolds, who published The Almond Story in 1962, the town takes its name from a place in Scotland rather than the nut, and is pronounced with the same initial sound as nearby communities Alfred, Alma, Addison, and Angelica.
The Almond Historical Society maintains a museum in the Hagadorn House, an 1830 structure featuring original architectural elements including a large open fireplace and stone oven.
