Beemer is a village in Cuming County, Nebraska, located near the geographic center of the county where Nebraska Link 20A meets U.S. Route 275, about 84 miles from Omaha and nine miles northwest of West Point. As of the 2020 census, the village had a population of 611. The area sits on table lands adjoining the Elkhorn River bottoms.
European settlers first arrived in the Beemer area in 1864, drawn by the promise of land under the Homestead Act. Early inhabitants built dugouts, sod houses, and log cabins. In 1865, August Lambrecht constructed a water-driven grain and flour mill on nearby Rock Creek, which helped attract settlers to the area. The Fremont, Elkhorn and Missouri Valley Railroad reached Wisner in 1871 and eventually extended through the region, establishing a water stop and telegraph station at the present-day site of Beemer.
In 1885, Allen D. Beemer, George Canfield, and K.C. Morehouse platted a village north of the Rock Creek water stop. A post office was established in 1886 under the name Beemer Post Office, courtesy of Congressman Edward K. Valentine. That same year, the village was officially incorporated on July 15, 1886, with Harry Delmont, W.D. Gibbon, John M. Barber, F.J. Fitzgerald, and Niels Hansen serving as the first village trustees. Allen D. Beemer founded the Beemer Times newspaper and oversaw the construction of the first rail depot and a wooden bridge across the Elkhorn River.
