Cedar Park is a city located approximately 16 miles northwest of downtown Austin in Williamson County, Texas. According to the 2020 U.S. census, the city had a population of 77,595, making it one of the fastest-growing communities in the region. The community that became Cedar Park began in 1873 when George and Harriet Cluck purchased 329 acres of land near the Running Brushy spring, which had given the area its original name. The arrival of the Austin and Northwestern Railroad in 1882 transformed the settlement, and in 1887, Emmett Cluck renamed the community Cedar Park. By 1892, a strolling park had been built near the train depot, attracting Austin residents for day trips. The city remained relatively small until the 1950s and 1960s, when growth from nearby Austin spilled over into the area. Cedar Park officially incorporated on February 24, 1973, with an estimated population of 1,765. The city has continued its rapid expansion, earning recognition in 2013 as the fourth fastest-growing city in the United States. In recent decades, Cedar Park has added important facilities including a library in 1978 and Cedar Park Regional Medical Center in 2007, establishing itself as a vibrant suburban community.
