Land O' Lakes is a census-designated place in Pasco County, Florida, located within the Tampa-St. Petersburg-Clearwater metropolitan area. As of the 2020 census, the community had a population of 35,929 residents across 13,598 households.
The area's history stretches back to the 1830s, when the land was taken from Native American inhabitants during the Second Seminole War. By the 1840s, a stagecoach line operated through what is now Land O' Lakes, and by the early 1900s, a railroad line and station were established. Throughout the twentieth century, the community expanded and absorbed surrounding settlements including Denham, Ehren, and Gowers Corner. The name Land O' Lakes was suggested in 1949, and the community officially adopted this name in September 1950. The area was once home to Dupree Gardens, one of Florida's original roadside tourist attractions, though only historical markers and gate ruins remain today.
The community developed into a primarily urban area, with 99.3 percent of residents living in urban settings as of 2020. The median age was 42.9 years, with 58 percent of households being married-couple families. Land O' Lakes is served by multiple state routes including U.S. Route 41, State Road 52, and State Road 54, making it an accessible hub in central Pasco County. The town maintains a library branch and is served by public schools operated through the Pasco County Schools system.
