Millbrook is a city located in both Elmore and Autauga counties in Alabama and part of the Montgomery Metropolitan Statistical Area. The city has grown considerably in recent decades, with its population reaching 16,564 at the 2020 census, up from 14,640 in 2010. The area has deep historical roots. The first permanent home, Ellerslie, was built in 1818 by Bolling Hall, a Georgia Congressman and Revolutionary War veteran. The following year, pioneer Archibald McKeithen began construction on Thornfield, completed in 1820. Both structures remain as private residences today. The former village of Robinson Springs, now part of Millbrook, was known as a summer retreat for wealthy Montgomery families. The Robinson Springs United Methodist Church was established in 1828, with its permanent structure completed in 1848. In 1852, Robinson Springs hosted Alabama's first state fair. During the Civil War era, many local youth served, and in 1862 a company of men was mustered under a tree at what is now the confederate monument site, eventually becoming part of the 59th Alabama Infantry under Colonel Bolling Hall III.
Following World War I, the communities of Millbrook, Coosada, and Robinson Springs developed into growing populated areas with schools, churches, and rail transportation. The introduction of Interstate 65 in the mid-1970s spurred significant growth, leading to Millbrook's formal incorporation as a city in 1977.
