Mina is an unincorporated community and census-designated place in Mineral County in west-central Nevada, situated along U.S. Route 95 at an elevation of 4,560 feet. The 2020 census recorded a population of 127 residents. Founded in 1905 as a railroad town, Mina was named for Ferminia Sarras, a large landowner and renowned prospector known as the "Copper Queen." In 1921, Gee Jon and Hughie Sing were convicted of murdering Tom Quong Kee in Mina. Gee Jon, a 29-year-old member of the Hop Sing Tong, made history as the first person executed by lethal gas, an execution that took place at Nevada State Prison on February 8, 1924.
