Wilson is an unincorporated community in Harris Township, Menominee County, Michigan, situated along U.S. Highway 2 and US 41, approximately 4.5 miles east-northeast of Powers. The community traces its origins to the early 1870s, when the Chicago and North Western Railway constructed a station in 1872-73 to support local charcoal kilns. Originally called Ferry Switch, the settlement received a post office in 1881 under the name Myra, with Daniel McIntyre serving as its first postmaster. The post office was renamed Wilson on November 1, 1881, after Frank D. Wilson, a local sawmill owner who became postmaster. The railway station that once anchored the community closed in 1950.
Today, Wilson is defined largely by its Seventh-day Adventist presence. In the early 1900s, Adventists from Wisconsin migrated to the area to farm. A church was constructed in 1908, with services initially conducted in French by minister R.J. Bellows. After a devastating furnace fire destroyed the original building in 1948, a new church was completed in 1949. This church is now the largest Seventh-day Adventist church in Michigan's Upper Peninsula. The community's school, which educates grades 1 through 10, began in a small partitioned space within the church before expanding. A public school building was relocated to the property in 1947, and in 1964, a new three-room schoolhouse with gymnasium replaced the original structure. Many descendants of the families who founded these institutions continue to reside in Wilson today.
