Wyeville is a small village in Monroe County, Wisconsin, located on Highway 21. With a population of 121 at the 2020 census, it has remained a modest community throughout its history. The village's origins trace back to the late nineteenth century when railroad expansion transformed the region. Originally called Necedah Junction, the area took its current name from the local post office established in 1890, with Charles Brooks serving as the first postmaster. The name Wyeville derives from Wythe, a county in Virginia. In 1911, the community officially adopted the name of its post office, abandoning the earlier Necedah Junction designation. The railroad proved central to Wyeville's development. The Chicago, St. Paul, Minneapolis and Omaha Railway, originally authorized as the West Wisconsin Railway in 1876, established a branch line eastward to Necedah at this location. A railroad wye, interlocking tower, and depot were constructed at the crossover where the lines intersected. Until 1963, Wyeville served as a scheduled transfer point for passengers traveling on the Twin Cities 400 and Rochester 400 streamliners, who changed trains there before continuing their journeys. This rail heritage shaped the village's identity during much of the twentieth century.
