Fears, secretary of the Arkansas Valley Town Site Company, selected a location about eighteen miles southeast of Tulsa and named it Broken Arrow in honor of the historic Creek settlement. The railroad was completed through the area in 1903 and remains in use today under Union Pacific ownership for freight service.
