Clearlake is a city in Lake County, California, situated 4.5 miles north-northwest of Lower Lake at an elevation of 1,417 feet. The city takes its name from Clear Lake. This resulted in massive population losses and freed land for white settlers arriving during the gold rush. The Clearlake post office opened in 1923 under the name Konocti, later changed to Clearlake Highlands before the town's incorporation in 1981, when it officially became the City of Clearlake.
