The town faced significant challenges, including a devastating fire in 1900 that destroyed 64 buildings but was rapidly rebuilt with help from Bernard Daly. The arrival of the Nevada-California-Oregon Railway in 1911 spurred economic growth, particularly in lumber production. By 1940, seven sawmills operated in Lakeview, providing year-round employment.
