Pollock Pines developed primarily as a lumber community. The town takes its name from Hiram Robert Pollock, a lumberman who arrived around 1909 with his wife Anna and son Claude Earl. After his sawmill burned in the early 1930s, the Pollocks created a subdivision along the ridge that became the town's foundation. The Pollock Pines Post Office was established in 1936, and the 50 Grand restaurant, originally opened as "Frenchy's" in the 1930s, has been in continuous operation since 1943.
