Novi is a city in Oakland County, Michigan, located roughly 25 miles northwest of downtown Detroit. As of the 2020 census, the city had a population of 66,243, representing a 20 percent increase from 2010. The community was organized as a township in 1832, carved from Farmington Township land. The name Novi was suggested by resident Dr. J. C. Emery's wife, as locals sought a shorter alternative to Farmington. Today, Novi covers 31.29 square miles and is one of Michigan's fastest-growing cities.
