Tununak is a census-designated place in Bethel Census Area, located on the northwest side of Nelson Island in the Bering Sea. With a population of 411 at the 2020 census, the community sits approximately five miles from the nearest village of Toksook Bay, connected by a year-round trail. The name Tununak comes from the Central Yupik word Tununeq.
The settlement has a long history in the region. Explorer Edward Nelson visited in December 1878 and documented six people living there.
