Alexandria is a census-designated place and unincorporated community located near the center of Calhoun County, Alabama. As of the 2020 census, the community had a population of 4,032 residents spread across 11.1 square miles. Though Alexandria is unincorporated today, it first appeared as an incorporated town on the 1880 census before reverting to unincorporated status. It would not appear separately on the census again until being designated as a census-designated place in 2000.

The area has deep historical roots. The Battle of Tallushatchee took place in 1813 just 3.2 miles north of Alexandria, when Andrew Jackson sent General John Coffee with 900 cavalry troops to attack the Red Stick Creek Indians. Legendary frontiersman Davy Crockett participated in this engagement, in which 180 warriors were killed. Though not incorporated, Alexandria continues to develop as a growing community with various commercial establishments and services along US 431.
