Arlington, located six miles northwest of Boston in Middlesex County, is a town with deep roots in American history and a vibrant present. Home to 46,308 residents according to the 2020 census, Arlington began as a colonial settlement in 1635 under the name Menotomy, an Algonquian word. More blood was shed in Menotomy that day than at Lexington and Concord combined, with twenty-five Americans and forty British troops killed. The Jason Russell House, a museum still bearing bullet holes in its walls, preserves the memory of twelve Americans killed there.
Historically, Arlington thrived as a farming community known for its lettuce, while Mill Brook powered seven mills, including the Old Schwamb Mill, which has operated continuously since 1650 as the nation's longest working mill.
