Bodega Bay is a small village and census-designated place in Sonoma County, California, situated along State Route 1 on the eastern shore of Bodega Harbor on the Pacific coast. At the 2020 census, the community had a population of 912 residents. The town's name honors Juan Francisco de la Bodega y Quadra, a Spanish naval officer who explored the west coast of North America during multiple voyages of discovery in the late 18th century.

The site became home to the first Russian structures built in California, established in 1809 by Ivan Alexandrovich Kuskov of the Russian-American Company. In the twentieth century, Bodega Bay became known to a wider audience through Alfred Hitchcock's 1963 film The Birds, which was filmed in both Bodega Bay and nearby Bodega. The town has since embraced this cinematic connection, even operating a Birds-themed visitors center. The community also appeared in the 1989 cult horror film Puppet Master. During the 1960s, plans by Pacific Gas and Electric Company to construct a nuclear power plant at Gaffney Point on Bodega Head were abandoned following significant environmental protests and the discovery of a geologic fault during construction.
