Its commercial district includes a post office, gas station, restaurant, bar, and coffee house, all located just north of the intersection of California State Routes 127 and 178. The town has a public airstrip measuring 2,380 feet across State Route 127 from the commercial district, accommodating approximately 58 flights monthly. Historically, Shoshone was a stop on the Tonopah and Tidewater Railroad, which operated until its closure in 1940. The town features a hot desert climate and sits at an elevation of 1,585 feet.
