Lakeside is a census-designated place in East County, San Diego County, California. With a 2020 population of 21,152, the community has grown steadily from its origins as a natural lake surrounded by land purchased by the El Cajon Valley Land Company in 1886. The area's heritage predates European settlement, as the Kumeyaay people originally inhabited the region and called Lindo Lake "Ha Ptur," meaning circular water.
