Lincoln Park is a city located in Wayne County, Michigan, situated roughly eleven miles southwest of downtown Detroit as part of the Downriver collection of communities in Metro Detroit. According to the 2020 census, the city had a population of 40,245 residents, making it the second most-densely populated municipality in the state after Hamtramck. Lincoln Park's history stretches back to 1763, when Chief Pontiac convened a council of tribal leaders along the banks of the Ecorse River to discuss a rebellion against European settlers, particularly those at nearby Fort Detroit. This significant gathering is now commemorated at Council Point Park, where an engraved boulder marks the historic meeting site. The Potawatomi eventually ceded the land to the French in 1776. Neighborhoods in the area were first laid out in 1906 when it was still part of Ecorse Township. Lincoln Park incorporated as a village in 1921 and became a city in 1925.
