Rancho Dominguez is an unincorporated community in Los Angeles County, situated between the cities of Compton, Long Beach, and Carson. The area consists of three distinct communities: Rancho Dominguez, East Rancho Dominguez, and West Rancho Dominguez. The Dominguez family occupied this adobe until the 1920s, and it now serves as a retirement home for Claretian Catholic priests.
During the late 1800s, the railroad industry acquired much of southern Rancho Dominguez and surrounding land leading to the Los Angeles Harbor. Those same railroad tracks continue operating today, providing an important connection between the Port of Los Angeles and Downtown Los Angeles. California State University, Dominguez Hills once called Rancho Dominguez home until Carson incorporated the Dominguez Hills section into its city boundaries in 1968.
